Section 1: Review (approx. 150 words)

For the first unit of work under the underlying theme of Transition I focused on the theme of childhood and growing up. I wanted to explore the progression of human experiences through objects specific to certain milestones and life experiences. I think I accomplished this idea well along with my group throughout the creation of our ‘Doll’s house’ as a reflection of the ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’. This enabled me to bring my ideas to life by focusing on 3 rooms each dedicated to a certain age category. Although I feel as though we could have managed are time better and refined the outcome by adding more detailed stereotypes to each of the rooms I was satisfied with the overall execution of the structure of the building and the result of the rooms and dolls I made.

During this project I was able to work in a variety of different mediums, so keeping my book work up to date and the creative process accurately written down was hard to keep on top of. Therefore, throughout the next project I will aim to be more aware of the deadline and adjust my working/ planning slightly so that I don’t sell myself short and allow myself the time to refine ideas. So now going forward into the next unit of work I will take this critical personal target with me and really push myself to take more risks to extend my outcomes.

Section 2: Project concept (approx. 250 words)

My project concept is to look at the idea of anthropomorphism through the use of supersculpey clay, whilst sewing clothes for the models to further personify the animal heads. During this project I also plan to learn how to create a stop motion animation, in order to make a short film. This would enable me to work on props and backgrounds for my figures, it would also create challenges for me as I will have to find a way to make my models moveable.

I have a private exhibition coming up in February in Woodbridge and one organised by the college from 17-31 Jan in Norwich, so I aim to have a large body of work and models completed for that point. This will also make me strive to make my figures more robust and refined, as they will have to be in order to sell and look at their best. For this to be successful I will place some of the figures under cloche and in boxes behind Perspex to prevent the models from being broken.

This concept became apparent to me when initially doing artist research. I have become extremely influenced by sculptor and Artist Alessandro Gallo; he creates anthropomorphic figures out of clay, making detailed animal heads and human bodies along with their clothes, which he then proceeds to fire in the kiln and paint. I'm fascinated by the finished result of the figures and his ability to create characteristics and personalities through his sculpting, through different body types and outfits along with accessories, piercings and tattoos.

Throughout the first part of my project, I plan to gather primary and secondary research to gain extra inspiration and to begin planning my ideas for my project concept. I will begin by researching Anthropomorphism and the way it influences design, this will also stem into looking at relating subjects such as Greek mythology and Aesop's fables. I will then use this knowledge to fuel my initial practical explorations of sculpting.

Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 100 words)

Throughout my ‘Anthropomorphism’ project I will be reviewing my work and progression alongside a weekly timetable which overviews my plans till the end of the 8-week project. I will also be tracking my changes in ideas and record my decision making and problem solving. Which will also be reflected through my directed research. Throughout my project I will also be getting tutor feedback, peer assessment and a wide view feedback from family members. Which I will also be documenting so I can reflect on it at any time. Doing this will help me with my project progression and development and staying on track.
